Development Prizes
First Prize-winner’s UK tour
The tour, which takes place in Autumn 2013, includes 10-12 concerts, for music societies, at universities and arts venues, to include master-classes and short demonstration concerts to school children, giving the winning quartet immediate exposure across the UK. We are delighted to have developed a long-term partnership with Sheffield-based chamber music organisation Music in the Round to create performing opportunities for future competition winners. The winners of the 2012 Competition will be part of Music in the Round's 2013/14 touring programme.
Recital at Wigmore Hall
This is perhaps the single most significant part of the professional development plans in the UK. The costs of hiring the Wigmore Hall and promoting a concert are beyond the reach of most young quartets, so the importance of having such a performance underwritten is not to be underestimated. The Wigmore Hall debut concert provides a showcase to which influential concert promoters, members of the press and other chamber musicians can be invited.
CD Recording for Wigmore Hall Live
The winning quartet will make a debut recording for Wigmore Hall Live, Wigmore Hall’s Gramophone award-winning own record label. The recording will receive full marketing and distribution support from Wigmore Hall, at no cost to the winners.
The Banff Centre Residency Prize (value approx. $7,000)
The winner of the 2012 Competition will be offered a two week funded residency at The Banff Centre in Canada, with meals, accommodation and tuition included.

Morrison Chamber Music Center Prize (value approx. $4,000)

Kindly donated by the Morrison Chamber Music Center at San Francisco State University, funded in part by the May Treat Morrison Chamber Music Foundation.
Master-classes in Paris with a top professional quartet player
Through Wigmore Hall’s links with chamber music institutions throughout Europe, we are able to arrange for the prize-winners to take part in masterclasses with a top quartet player, courtesy of ProQuartet in Paris. The invitation will be extended to an ensemble chosen in agreement between the jury and ProQuartet, for a ProQuartet Academy In Pont Royal en Provence during the season 2012-2013. ProQuartet will provide tuition, room and board, on the Pont- Royal campus and a concert in the Lourmarin Castle during the period of the academy. Local travel ( Avignon or Marseille) will be covered by the ProQuartet; food during the academy and international travel will be at the prizewinners’ expense.
