Entry Requirements & Practical Information

All application forms, required documentation and recorded audition DVD must be sent at the competitor’s expense and received by 15th September 2011. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered by the Committee.

Selected quartets will be expected to arrive in London no later than 26th March 2012 and leave on
2nd April 2012.

The Preliminary Round of the Competition will take place at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
The Semi-finals will take place on Saturday 31st March and the Final on the evening of Sunday 1st April, at London's Wigmore Hall. All performances will be open to the public.

Selected quartets not based in the UK will also be asked to perform once outside the Competition timetable at lunchtime concerts in London as part of the events surrounding the Competition.

The Competition Winner will appear on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’ programme on Monday 2nd April,
so travel arrangements must be flexible to allow for this.

Wigmore Hall will, if required, provide five return economy travel tickets to London, for each competing quartet; each competing quartet is responsible for booking their travel, which Wigmore Hall will reimburse after the Competition.

It is the responsibility of competing quartets to ensure that any necessary visas are applied for in good time before the Competition; Wigmore Hall is happy to write supporting letters, but will not make visa applications on behalf of any competing quartets.

Wigmore Hall will, if required, provide free lodging for the members of competing quartets for the nights of Monday 26th March to Sunday 1st April inclusive. Any additional nights must be requested and paid for in advance.

Separate and dedicated rehearsal rooms for each quartet, including the provision of music stands, will be available at the Royal Academy of Music. Rehearsal time in the main Competition performance venue at the Royal Academy of Music will also be available before the Competition starts.

The organisers of the Competition can accept no responsibility for loss or damage to candidates' instruments or any other property at any time. Candidates are advised to effect their own insurance arrangements.

Previous winners of the First Prize of the Competition are excluded from further participation in any subsequent Competition.

All contestants shall agree to have their performances recorded, filmed, or broadcast on radio or television anywhere in the world. No payment will be made to contestants for the recording or broadcasting of Competition performances.

Only the English text will be considered valid in the case of dispute and English Law will prevail.
