Summary

Edward Seckerson catches up with Mark Padmore at Wigmore Hall, summarising Mark’s career and the people who have influenced him; his approach to different genres and repertoire; future projects, and his new role as ambassador for Wigmore Hall Learning.

As part of his year long residency at Wigmore Hall, Mark Padmore will be working with the Learning department on a series of creative learning projects:

Schools’ Project, Spring 2010

Working with primary and secondary students from six London schools including; St. Augustine’s High Schools, St. Augustine’s Primary School, Millbank Primary School, Maria Fidelis Covent School, New End Primary School. This exciting project will give over 150 young people the opportunity to hear Mark Padmore perform in their schools, and to write new music which they will perform alongside him on stage at Wigmore Hall on Thursday 8 July 2010.

Working alongside composer John Barber and singer Isabelle Adams, this project aims raise enthusiasm and confidence for singing through creative activities and performance. Students will explore how composers over the past 400 years have taken very different approaches to setting texts by Shakespeare, and will find their own way of responding to Shakespeare’s words. The project will also support teachers in leading effective singing sessions and develop confidence in leading song-writing in the classroom.
