Summary
Iain Burnside discusses this season’s Decade by Decade project with Malcolm Martineau.
This new series, overseen by Malcolm Martineau and Dr Susan Youens, featuring singers chosen by Malcolm Martineau together with John Gilhooly, explores the rich repertoire of German song, decade by decade, spanning from 1810 until 1910, thereby overlapping with the Hall’s first decade.
Decade by Decade - 100 Years of German Song evokes the glories of Wigmore Hall’s past – which has brought performances by artists such as Peter Pears, Alfred Deller, Elly Ameling, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Brigitte Fassbaender – in featuring the leading recitalists of today, among them Diana Damrau, Susan Graham, Angelika Kirchschlager and Christopher Maltman.
