Sandy Burnett talks to Elizabeth McCall (Head of Learning), Jackie Walduck (Ignite ensemble leader), Daniel Parkin (Flautist for Ignite), and Corin Pilling (Cardinal Hume Centre) about the work of Ignite; Wigmore Hall Learning’s outreach ensemble, and their forthcoming late-night concert on
Thursday 2 June
.

Ignite was formed by Wigmore Hall Learning to devise and deliver innovative outreach projects in a diverse range of settings. Led by composer and percussionist Jackie Walduck, Ignite use improvisation to create new music; enabling the ensemble to experiment with many different musical styles and connect with the existing musical interests of workshop participants and listeners alike.

Ignite is also a performing ensemble in its own right and is developing an exciting catalogue of repertoire, mostly based on commissioned one-page scores which the ensemble then develop collaboratively. A number of these pieces will be featured in the concert on 2 June, including the world première of Initials by Jason Yarde.
