For Schools

The Wigmore Schools Programme enables children and young people of all backgrounds and abilities to develop their creative skills and confidence through music-making workshops and performance.

Wigmore Hall Learning works across London, with a focus in our local area of Westminster and particularly with those in communities where access to music or Wigmore Hall itself is limited. Inspired by the Hall’s prestigious concert series, the Learning team work closely with teachers and music services to create projects that are dynamic and engaging for a diverse group of young people.

Projects are devised in partnership with teachers to meet schools’ needs and enhance cross curricular learning whilst offering unique and exciting opportunities of the highest quality.

Core Aim

  • To inspire young people to participate in chamber music and song and raise musical aspirations through accessible projects, performances and workshops

Providing Access

  • To provide access to high quality chamber music for young people at state primary and secondary schools in London, many of whom would otherwise be excluded from regular arts activities
  • To enable young people to explore creative music-making with professional musicians and composers
  • To challenge negative perceptions or perceived barriers to Wigmore Hall through offering a broad range of interactive music opportunities to engage the imagination and curiosity of young people
  • To proactively encourage and enable schools to make best use of the Wigmore Hall as a local resource

Raising Aspirations

  • To offer exceptional musical experiences above and beyond the resources of regular school activities
  • To enhance life experiences, raising aspirations and giving young people more confidence in their own skills and abilities

Foundation and Legacy

  • To support teachers in the delivery of the national curriculum, making appropriate cross-curricular links, and providing online resources and teachers packs
  • To provide training opportunities for teachers, young musicians and animateurs, to extend music leadership skills and promote best practice

The schools programme includes extended projects, involving children from key stage 1 through to key stage 4, interactive concerts, free ticket offers, teacher’s resources, free workshops and extended creative projects for all key stages. See how you can get involved.
