The Decades Project
Inspired by the Decade by Decade - 100 Years of German Song concert series, celebrating 100 years of song leading up to Wigmore Hall’s first decade, this Learning Project takes the series further, exploring the next 100 years through an interactive project with community groups from across Westminster.
The project aims to inspire Westminster residents to discover their local history and build partnerships between community groups through intergenerational activity. Working with schools, residential homes and family centres the project will look at the historical context of Wigmore Hall, archives, social history and changing music through this period, culminating in an interactive performance as part of the anniversary celebrations on Wednesday 6 July 2011.
This project will also celebrate Wigmore Hall’s successful ‘trainee animateur’ programme by involving all 6 workshop leaders who have come through the programme and now lead on projects for artistic organisations across London and beyond. Working together on differing elements of the project and alongside visual artist Ellie Rees, workshop leaders will draw together the musical material created by project participants into the live performance.
