The Sound House
The Sound House is the culmination of a six month programme of work led by Wigmore Hall Learning. Inspired by the history, artists, audience and daily life at Wigmore Hall, this interactive site aims to capture the essence of the concert hall and explore the spaces and sounds of the building.
The project has been led by Sound Artist Duncan Chapman, supported by Rus Pearson and involved young people from Pimlico Academy. Over the course of 3 months, students were challenged to devise the overall concept of the website and input on design and content.
Students spent time at Wigmore Hall setting up time-lapse recordings, interviewing audience members, exploring archive recordings and created new compositions inspired by 110 years of concert programmes from the Wigmore Hall Archive. Each student was given two recordings of music performed at Wigmore Hall and using music technology software, they have remixed and rearranged these recordings resulting in a series of unique re-imaginings of music from the Wigmore Hall repertoire.
The site is now used to introduce participants on our future schools’ projects and those attending concerts to Wigmore Hall as a venue.
Supported by John Lyon’s Charity and The Samuel Sebba Charitable Trust.
