Chamber Challenge (2011 - 2012)

chamber challenge 2011-12 image Chamber Challenge was devised by Wigmore Hall Learning in 2003 to provide an introduction to string quartet music for KS2 students and to give groups of non-specialist primary school children the experience of working alongside a professional ensemble. Since the project's inception in 2003, Wigmore Hall Learning has facilitated the Chamber Challenge project with the Belcea, Royal, Navarra and Sacconi String Quartets, in Primary Schools in London, Stoke-Newington, Richmond and Southwark.

Now in its fourth year, Wigmore Hall Learning will be working with the Heath Quartet and THAMES (Tower Hamlets Arts Music and Education Service) to facilitate the project in four Tower Hamlets Primary Schools.

The project will involve a series of interactive workshops during which the students will write music for the professional string ensemble, developing creative musical skills and a broader understanding of string quartet repertoire. The project will culminate in a sharing session for all schools involved in the project at Wigmore Hall on 22 March 2012.

It is integral to Chamber Challenge to support teachers in building skills and confidence in leading creative music activities and the project includes teacher training sessions and accompanying teachers’ pack and CD.
