Previous Winners: James Baillieu

“I can't believe two years has passed since the last Wigmore Competition! I remember the moment when my name was announced as the winner of the Pianist’s Prize like it was yesterday!

So much has happened since that day! To have been a prize-winner in such a prestigious competition has led to wonderful experiences and exciting things!

In 2010 I was selected as a YCAT artist in their new Chamber Music/Accompaniment category. I also returned to the Wigmore stage a few times since the last Competition, including a prizewinner’s concert with Marcus Farnsworth, which we both enjoyed immensely! I also participated in the Das Lied International Song Competition in Berlin earlier this year, performing together with Marcus and Anna Huntley, and I was awarded the pianists prize in that.

One of the most touching experiences to come out of the last Competition was one of the jurors, the late Dame Margaret Price invited Gerard Collett and myself to give a recital which she organised for us in Wales near her home, and we spent a few days with her and her dogs while she helped us prepare for the recital. This was a wonderful experience for Gerard and myself!

 

I am looking forward to a busy 2011/12 season, and also really looking forward to being part of the Competition again.”
