3. Can I reserve tickets, or do I have to pay for them straight away?

If you book over the telephone or in person at the Box Office we can reserve tickets for up to three days. Owing to high demand, we regret that it is not possible to reserve returns for sold out concerts.

4. The concert is sold out. How do I get returns?

Contact the Box Office (+44 (0)20 7935 2141) a few days before the concert to check if any tickets have been returned. If available, returns can be booked in person or by telephone.

We also sometimes get returns on the door, so you can try queuing on the night for returned tickets.

If all seats for a performance have been sold, a limited number of standing places may be available for purchase from midday on the day of the concert.

For Lunchtime and Coffee Concerts standing tickets will go on sale when the Box Office opens.

Standing spaces will be allocated to personal callers queuing at the Wigmore Hall Box Office only, one ticket per person.

Your First Visit to Wigmore Hall

1. What music do you put on and how will I know what I might like?

Wigmore Hall’s programme includes a large range of recitals and chamber music. The music range from Early Music, generally written before 1600, to Jazz and music written by living composers.

Recitals usually feature one or two musicians singing or playing the piano, a stringed instrument or a wind or brass instrument. Chamber Music concerts tend to include small groups of between 3 and 18 performers.

Each of our event pages details who is playing and the music to be performed. If you are still unsure what you might enjoy, the Box Office is happy to help with suggestions on +44 (0)20 7935 2141.

2. Do I have to dress up?

There is no dress code for concerts at Wigmore Hall - wear whatever you feel comfortable in.

3. How long will the concert last?

BBC Lunchtime Concerts (Mondays at 1.00pm) and Coffee Concerts (Sundays at 11.30am) last approximately 1 hour with no interval.

Other concerts last around 2 hours including a 20 minute interval.

Check with the Box Office on +44 (0)20 7935 2141 or email the Box Office if you have a query about a specific concert.

4. When do I clap?

It is generally best to clap only when a piece finishes (check in your concert programme how many movements or sections the piece has), as clapping at the wrong moment can be distracting for the performers and other audience members.

If in doubt, wait until the person next to you starts clapping.

At the end of the piece it is often usual for a small pause to be left before clapping commences.
