The penultimate concert of this season’s Jörg Widmann Focus includes Schubert’s heartrending ‘Rosamunde’ Quartet. Widmann’s String Quartet No. 3, the ‘Hunt Quartet’ (2003), quotes from Schumann’s early piano cycle Papillons, while No. 4 (2005) brings a set of theme and variations with a difference: here the theme remains constant, while the background does the changing.
