About this concert

Named after the great Catalan cellist, this Spanish ensemble won the London String Quartet Competition in 2000 and was taken into the award scheme of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust. Here it pairs the most strikingly innovative of all the Haydn quartets with one by Schubert that might also suggest new directions – except it turned out to be his last.
