About this event

Led by composer and Northern College of Music lecturer David Horne, this half day session will explore set works from the Edexcel GCSE Syllabus Area of Study 1 & 2. This session will look at all musical elements and melodic devices and unpack the historical context of the repertoire and relationships to other music in similar genres. Enhanced by live musicians, this short workshop is a great top-up for teachers looking to approach the repertoire in a new inspiring way.

This short workshop will focus on the following repertoire:

Area of Study 1: western classical music 1600-1899

  • G F Handel: Chorus: And The Glory of The Lord from Messiah, HWV 56
  • W A Mozart: 1st Movement from Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550
  • F Chopin: Prelude No 15 in D flat major, Op. 28

Area of Study 2: music in the 20th century

  • A Schoenberg: Peripetie from Five Orchestral Pieces, Op. 16
  • L Bernstein: Something’s Coming from West Side Story
