About this concert

Biography and creativity merge in the Piano Trios Op. 1, dedicated to Beethoven’s patron Prince Lichnowsky and published in 1794. It appears that Haydn, present at the anthology’s first public performance, told Beethoven that it would have been better if he had not included the C minor trio in his Op. 1 collection.

‘This astonished Beethoven, since he considered it the best, and… to this day it is always considered the most pleasing,’ recalled the composer’s friend and pupil, Ferdinand Ries.
