About this concert
Beethoven drew inspiration from the Viennese violinist, Ignaz Schuppanzigh, while crafting his Op. 12 violin sonatas in 1798. The composer treated violin and piano as equal partners, a strategy fully explored four years later in his commanding Op. 30 works.
Interplay and exchange are central to the three pieces in this programme, qualities guaranteed to trigger mercurial music-making from the entrancing partnership of Leonidas Kavakos and Emanuel Ax, here for their second Wigmore Hall Beethoven recital this season.
