About this concert
Busoni’s towering piano realisation of Bach’s famous D minor Chaconne for solo violin and Beethoven’s rhythmically driven Waldstein Sonata contrast with Brahms’s more rhapsodic Intermezzos. In his Handel Variations, Brahms paid tribute not only to the composer whose theme he borrowed, but also to Beethoven, one of the greatest exponents of the piano variation.
