About this event
This illustrated talk with Richard Stokes will assess Wilhelm Müller's standing as a poet, and discuss the ways in which Schubert altered the original poems. The biographical background to the composition of the songs will be examined, along with Schubert's genius for finding tonal analogues for poetic images in Müller's verse. The afternoon will finish with a discussion on the possible ways of interpreting the cycle.
