About this concert

Wigmore Hall Young Producers present Industrial Soul a unique concert experience at the prestigious Wigmore Hall. Percussionist Joby Burgess and vocalist ESKA join forces for the first time, fusing experimental percussion, electronics and visuals with ESKA’s distinctive vocals. Featuring music by Steve Reich, Gabriel Prokofiev, Iannis Xenakis and ESKA’s acclaimed song cycle English Skies. The concert is entitled Industrial Soul and aims to challenge the contract between realistic, the industrial, and the dream-like, the soul.

Joby Burgess is a percussionist much in demand. This UK-based percussionist works in many genres, from popular music to performances of new works by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies and Gabriel Prokofiev. Known for his skill and innovation in the use of percussion, he performs regularly in Europe and the USA.

Eska Mtungwazi is a singer, songwriter, conductor and producer known for her experimental use of voice. She has had televised performances, such as her acclaimed performance on Jazz Britannia and on 4Music. Often said to be a soul or jazz performer, her music ranges from hip-hop to folk.
