Beethoven Chamber Works

Leading performers offer a rare insight into a range of Beethoven’s piano sonatas and ensemble works, whose breadth of expression and technical challenges encouraged the transition of chamber music-making from drawing room to concert hall.

While the Leopold String Trio performs the early trios for strings, Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien survey the complete violin sonatas. These works, with the exception of the final violin sonata, were all composed before 1803, allowing a view of the grace and relative restraint of Beethoven’s works before his final period.

Also within the series, Miklós Perényi and András Schiff perform his works for cello and piano, the Artemis Quartet begin their Beethoven Cycle and Viennese master Till Fellner concludes his monumental Beethoven piano sonata cycle – which reaches its conclusion with the three last great piano sonatas next June.
