Takacs Quartet: Associate Artists
Wigmore Hall’s Associate Artists grace the 2013/14 Season with five concerts chiefly comprising works written within the bounds of the old Habsburg Empire. Their repertoire choices touch on the Vienna of Mozart, Beethoven and Webern and look to the Bohemian and Moravian milieus of Dvořák, Janáček and Smetana.
Wigmore Hall’s Associate Artists are able to encompass the widest imaginable span of expression in performance, touching listeners by turns with vivid expressive outbursts and tender-hearted lyricism.
The Takács Quartet’s programmes this Season are shaped by the great Viennese Classical tradition. They include such totemic works as Beethoven’s String Quartet in B flat Op. 130, Schubert’s ‘Rosamunde’ and ‘Death and the Maiden’ quartets, and Mozart’s String Quintet in G minor, universally admired for its combination of dramatic power and lyrical tenderness.
