Overview

Once again, two substantial pieces by Fauré – the Second Piano Quartet (1887) and the First Piano Quintet (1887-1905, dedicated to the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe) – are placed in the context of one of his most talented younger contemporaries, Reynaldo Hahn, whose 1905 Variations for cello and piano take their theme from Cavalli's Il Xerse.
