The Leonore Piano Trio gave the first performance of Huw Watkins’s single-movement Second Piano Trio at the Presteigne Festival in 2022 and went on to record this wonderful work suffused with tender beauty and engrossing thematic transformations. It marks the composer’s 50th birthday year by pairing it with the Second Piano Trio by Brahms, known not least for its impassioned central movement. Robert Schumann’s turbulent Third Piano Trio completes this evening’s compelling trio of trios.
