Overview
Having weathered the deadening state of internal exile within Nazi Germany, Karl Amadeus Hartmann channelled the harrowing experience of witnessing the death march of prisoners from Dachau concentration camp into the music of his Piano Sonata ‘27 April 1945’. Tamara Stefanovich, acclaimed for her probing interpretations of the contemporary repertoire, prefaces Hartmann’s profoundly moving work with exquisite miniatures by Suk and Szymanowski and complementary sets of variations by Webern and Copland.
