With his wide-ranging interests as a musician, Alexander Melnikov received the honour of having one of his recordings – the complete Shostakovich Preludes and Fugues – selected as one of the 50 Greatest Recordings of all Time by BBC Music Magazine. The music of Rachmaninov has remained with him since his earliest years and forms the entirety of this programme.
