As pianist Roger Vignoles continues his major recording project of Strauss’s 200-plus songs, he takes the helm for a major Wigmore Hall series of Strauss songs, joined by leading singers Christine Brewer, Angelika Kirchschlager, Marlis Petersen, Andrew Kennedy, Dorothea Röschmann, Christopher Maltman, Soile Isokoski and Anne Schwanewilms.

Many of Strauss’s songs have been neglected in the concert hall, with only a small proportion of them being performed regularly. Yet even though the composer mostly chose texts by little-known poets – the occasional Goethe, Rückert and Heine settings being exceptions – his unparalleled melodic gift, sense of harmonic colour and orchestrally conceived piano-writing shine through.
