    Overview

Vocal ensemble Siglo de Oro have collaboratedwith Dr Daniel Trocmé-Latter (University ofCambridge) to bring to life a mysterious motetanthology from the late 1530s. Dr Trocmé-Latter'sresearch has shed light on this sacred music, which was assembled by the Milanese composerHermann Matthias Werrecore and sent to thepublisher Peter Schoeffer in Strasbourg whereit was printed in a set of five partbooks. In doingso, the repertoire not only crossed the Alps, but became cross-confessional, travelling fromstaunchly Catholic Milan to a newly Protestant one. What then was the purpose of publishing a motetbook in a German imperial city where Latin choralsinging no longer took place?

The new recording will showcase works from thisenigmatic volume, which includes motets by wellknowncomposers Nicolas Gombert and AdrianWillaert, but also presents some little-knownnames such as Simon Ferrariensis and PierreCadéac.
