Overview

In 1723 Bach took on his role as Thomaskantor – director of church music in the important city of Leipzig – where he worked for the remaining 27 years of his life; but it was not an automatic transition from his previous post: both Christoph Graupner and Georg Philipp Telemann were offered the role first.
