Overview

Mozart’s miraculous concertante work for violin and viola forms the centrepiece of a programme that contrasts the Austrian genius with one of his most interesting contemporaries. The Czech Johann Baptist Vanhal (1739-1813) was born into serfdom, enjoyed an international career and left behind some 130 symphonies and much other music highly regarded by his colleagues.
