Overview
Having been denounced by the Soviet authorities in 1948, Shostakovich expressed his feelings in the nerve-shredding finale of his Fourth Quartet. Powerful personal emotions erupt, too, in the Fifth Quartet before giving way to the Sixth Quartet’s more genial atmosphere.
