Overview

Famed for his expressive artistry and readiness to project wholehearted emotions, Gautier Capuçon is a passionate advocate for music education. His mission to inspire outstanding young cellists continues with a masterclass session set to reveal fascinating musical insights and bold ideas.

Lynn Renouil-Hata began playing the cello at the age of seven. In 2022, she was admitted to the Conservatoire de Paris, where she studied with Raphaël Pidoux, Astrig Siranossian, and Véronique Marin. She also receives chamber music training from Claire Désert and François Salque. She has participated in prestigious academies such as the Verbier Festival Academy, the Carl Flesch Academy, and the Ozawa Chamber Music Academy Okushiga, working with musicians such as Frans Helmerson, Alban Gerhardt, Miklós Perényi, Kian Soltani, Miyata Dai, Augustin Dumay, Mihaela Martin, Mathieu Herzog, Gábor Takács-Nagy, and Sadao Harada. Lynn Renouil-Hata has performed in major concert halls such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, Salle Cortot in Paris, and Toppan Hall in Tokyo. She has also played with orchestras including the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra and the Montpellier Symphony Orchestra. In November 2024, she was given the opportunity to play a 1764 Cuypers cello, generously loaned to her by Talents & Violon’celles, which is the instrument she is currently performing on.

After studying piano and organ at the CNR in Paris, Simon Adda-Reyss entered the CNSM of Paris in 1993, continuing his studies with Jean-François Heisser, Christian Ivaldi, and Rena Shereshevskaya. Both a pianist and an organist, he was fortunate enough to receive guidance from Olivier Messiaen. He was the winner of the first André Marchal International Organ Competition in Biarritz. After receiving his premier prix at the CNSM, he continued his studies in harmony and music theory there. Passionate about teaching, he was appointed assistant professor at the CNSM of Paris in 2008 and has since served as a professor of piano and organ at the École Normale de Paris as well as at Musica Mundi in Waterloo. He regularly performs as a soloist, in chamber music, or with an orchestra, notably in Japan, where his work frequently takes him. He has played with artists such as Jane Rhodes, Nicolas Altstaedt, Atsushi Sakai, Astrig Siranossian, Nemanja Radulovic, and Eva Zavaro.

Layla Ballard is a cellist based in London, originally from Edinburgh. She began her studies at St Mary’s Music School with Duncan Strachan, and also studied composition with Tom Wilson and Jazz Piano with Chick Lyall. Her cello studies have continued at the Royal College of Music with Melissa Phelps, where she is a Leverhulme Arts Scholar supported by the Geoffrey Boyes Memorial Scholarship, and is also supported by the Dewar Arts Award and the Talent Unlimited Foundation. She has previously been supported by the Cross Trust and Beatrice Huntington Award. She has made her debut as a soloist and chamber musician at the Edinburgh International Festival and Fringe, as well as performing in high profile venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin and Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh as both an orchestral player and soloist. She has been lucky enough to have played in masterclasses with Steven Isserlis, Nicolas Aldstaedt, Gautier Capuçon, Leonid Gorokhov, Marc Coppey, and Torleif Thedéen. Her cello is an English, Kennedy School make kindly donated by a private owner.

Equally at home in vocal and instrumental chamber music, Archie received pianist prizes at the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards 2023 at Wigmore Hall and the Ashburnham English Song Competition 2024. He is a Britten-Pears and Shipston Song Young Artist, and in 2024 was both a Fellow in Vocal Collaborative Piano at the Aspen Music Festival and School working in the vocal studio of Renée Fleming, and an official pianist of the Wigmore Hall French Song Exchange.

Daniel Schultz is a Finnish cellist currently based in London. He is currently pursuing his Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music with Josephine Knight. He holds a bachelor's degree from the Sibelius Academy, where he studied with Martti Rousi. Daniel Schultz has recently been selected as a Tillett Trust Debut Artist for 2025 and 2026. Throughout his career, he has achieved recognition in prestigious competitions, including securing third prize at the 2022 Turku Cello Competition, and advancing to the second round of the International Schoenfeld Competition in Harbin, China, in 2023 as well as a semi-finalist in the Tunbridge Wells competition in 2024. He has performed as a soloist with several prominent orchestras, including the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sibelius-Academy Philharmonic Orchestra and the Surrey Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he is a passionate chamber musician.
