Expressive contrasts abound in the Elias String Quartet’s selection of three breathtakingly inventive works. The programme opens with the charming Op. 18 No. 2, well-mannered in all but its ebullient finale, before taking a deep dive into Beethoven’s aptly named ‘Serioso’ Quartet, relentless in intensity, and the boundless creative universe of his late Op. 130 quartet.
