Overview

Concerto Italiano’s performances and recordings of the madrigals of Monteverdi, cultivated under the inspired direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini, have evolved ever since the late 1980s. The ensemble’s revelatory interpretations of the composer’s music, rooted in the colours of the Italian language, were hailed recently by the Guardian for ‘their scrupulous attention to the weight and meaning of every syllable’ and ‘wonderful expressive force’.
