    Overview

Handel’s solo cantatas, many of them written during his formative stay in Italy, contain some of his finest music. Lucy Crowe’s recording of the composer’s youthful works with the English Concert was praised by BBC Music Magazine for the ‘imaginative sensitivity’ of the soprano’s interpretations and as being 'well-nigh ideal’ by Gramophone, while Hugh Cutting was described by The Telegraph as ‘a Handelian Puck – entertainingly amoral and mischievous’ while playing Unulfo in Garsington Opera’s Rodelinda.
