Overview

A folk influence runs through the programme of one of the most internationally admired of today’s ensembles, commencing with Smetana’s distinctive Czech heritage followed by the impact of a wealth of diverse folk traditions on Bartók, and on to Beethoven’s quotation of Russian melodies in the second of his three Razumovsky commissions.
