Reviewing the Mendelssohn D minor Trio in 1840, Robert Schumann described it as ‘the masterpiece of our time in the trio genre’. Of the Sitkovetsky’s recording of the composer’s two numbered examples, Gramophone wrote, ‘There's always the sense of three individuals listening to one another to create a satisfying whole’.
