Overview

In this programme, Florian and Anna relive parts of Schubert's Winterreise through 20th-century poetry and music. Snow and darkness stand at the core of the programme, exemplified by its centrepiece: Strauss's rarely-heard Notturno in a new arrangement for piano and baritone. In the last song, we meet Cassou's Fantasio, who mirrors the Leiermann in Schubert's cycle and is ultimately carried to his grave ‘with Basque drums’.
