Overview

Louis Lortie explores the art of variation in works that embrace the breadth of invention and emotions that can be extracted from a simple melody or musical idea. The renowned Canadian artist, hailed by the Guardian for his ‘immaculate pianism and artistry’, interleaves sublime compositions by Beethoven with strikingly poetic works by Mendelssohn and Fauré and Thomas Adès’s set of five grief-tinged variations on the Ladino folk tune Lavaba la blanca niña.
