Overview

While the dash to embrace modernity in Belle Époque France held little time for the nation’s past, its former cultural achievements were periodically revived. Debussy was impressed by the partial performance of Rameau's opera Castor et Pollux he heard at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, while Ravel drew inspiration from François Couperin’s keyboard works. Cédric Tiberghien traces the lines of influence connecting Couperin and Ravel, Rameau, Debussy and Julian Anderson with this enchanting programme.
