Overview

The final concert in Danny Driver’s revelatory Variations Series trains the spotlight on the many ways in which composers have used the process of varying a theme to construct substantial musical structures or to preserve the essence of improvisation. He opens with Gubaidulina’s virtuosic Chaconne, a towering achievement of her student years, before entering the heroic realm of Beethoven’s last piano sonata, with its sublime concluding Arietta with variations.
