Overview

Studies of the music of Bach and Handel and time spent reading works of theology, literature and philosophy nourished Beethoven in his maturity and helped open doors to a new spiritual awareness in his final two string quartets. Quatuor Ébène presents these late, great works this evening in the shape of the concisely argued Op. 135 and the ineffably beautiful Op. 131, prefaced by the light-infused spirit of Op. 18 No. 2.
