Overview

Swiss composer Othmar Schoeck, born 140 years ago, has attracted distinguished champions over the years, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Christian Gerhaher among them. Stéphane Degout and Quatour Diotima join their company by entering the mysterious soundworld of the composer’s Notturno, in which ‘he rivalled the best of his time,’ according to critic Alex Ross. They begin with Respighi’s own masterwork for voice and strings, Il tramonto (The Sunset), before the Diotimas fathom the depths of Ligeti’s early 'Métamorphoses nocturnes'.
