Overview

Quatuor Ébène begins its four-concert Beethoven odyssey at Wigmore Hall with a striking combination of pieces from the composer’s first collection of string quartets, highlighting their diversity with the Mozartian lyricism of Op. 18 No. 5 and the complex drama of Op. 18 No. 4. They step into the astounding world of his late quartets with Op. 127, the elemental force of which rises from its imposing introduction and runs through to the work’s heavenly finale.
