Overview

The title of Nicky Spence’s recital and his choice of songs are resonant with personal and universal meaning. The Scottish tenor, winner of the 2024 RPS Singer Award, reflects on the relationship between father and son and the richly interwoven layers of birth, childhood, adulthood and parenthood. There’s room here for pathos and tender love, tears of sorrow and laughter, expressed in pieces as diverse as Buxton Orr’s haunting Shy Geordie, Tim Minchin’s hilarious Lullaby and Mahler’s transcendent Um Mitternacht.
