Overview

During his quest to find connections between Beethoven and his contemporaries, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has spent rewarding time in company with the music of Johann Nepomuk Hummel, a pupil of Haydn and friend of Goethe. The French pianist traces the lines of influence that lead from Haydn to the young Beethoven and from Hummel to the Romantic contrasts of Robert Schumann’s Carnival Scenes from Vienna.
